Although Kathryn's obituary lists her parents as Edward F. Braunschneider and Mary Schulte, she is actually the biological daughter of Alfred F. Winterhalter & Henrietta Schulte. Henrietta, known as 'Etta', died within a month of giving birth to her daughter. Kathryn ended up being raised by Etta's sister, Mary, and her husband, Edward Braunschneider.

NOTE: An earlier 'Find A Grave' memorial for Kathryn was created by 'Find A Grave' members, Elizabeth & Ron, #46962179, on 8 October 2013, in Resurrection Cemetery. Previous efforts to get this discrepancy corrected have gone unheeded...hence, this memorial in Mount Calvary Cemetery where Kathryn is actually interred.
Kathryn Braunschneider OFS, age 86, died at home of natural causes on October 4, 2013 (Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi). A native of Grand Rapids, she was predeceased by her parents Edward F. Braunschneider and Mary Schulte Braunschneider. Survivors include her brother, Karl E. and his wife Darlene Braunschneider and five nieces and nephews. She will be sorely missed by her family and her special friends: Randall Schut and Rick and Mickey Johnson and many neighbors who helped her so many times and her beloved Sheltie "Sasha". Kathryn spent her early adult life in the Dominican Order where she took the name of Sister Karl. Later she became a member of the Secular Franciscan Order. She taught school at St. James for two years and then became the bookkeeper and later the Treasurer of Arden's Photo Shop for 20 years. Kathryn was dedicated to sheltie dogs and actively supported the Sheltie Rescue Center. She owned several shelties, as many as three at one time and she and showed her animals at dog shows in Michigan. Kathryn was an accomplished pianist and photographer. Her home has many beautiful portraits of nature and her many dogs. The family treasured her prayer life and the many blessings they feel they received through her prayers. A member of Holy Spirit Parish, she regularly attended Saturday Mass at St. James Catholic Church where the funeral mass celebrating her life will be held at 12:00pm on Friday October 11, 2013. There will be visitation at the church from 11:00-12:00 pm. There will be visitation on Thursday, October 10, 4:00-7:00pm at the Arsulowicz Brothers Stocking Mortuary (585 Stocking Ave. NW.) with devotions at 6:00pm.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Michigan Shelti Rescue (922 Oakhurst N.W., Grand Rapids, MI 49504) or to Aquinas College (Golden Saints Reunion Scholars Program) 1607 Robinson Road. S.E., Grand Rapids 49506 or the charity of your choice.
