Royce Trice Hassell, age 25, died at Ben Taub Hospital in Houston, Texas on December 17, 1970. He had been employed at the Bank of the Southwest since returning from military service in Thailand in October.

Trice was born in Palestine, Texas on January 31, 1945, a son of Mattie Ward Hassell
and the late James Fletcher Hassell.

He graduated in 1963 from Palestine High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and the band. He received his degree in economics in 1968 from the University of Houston before serving in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Mattie and A. E. Bint of Montgomery, Texas; and three brothers, Jarvis Ward Hassell of Houston, Texas, James Reginald Hassell of Vidor, Texas, and Fletcher Heath Hassell of Montgomery, Texas.

Named as pallbearers for the funeral Saturday are John D. Norwood III, Ricky Cheatham, Jonathan Wall, Cleve Plummer, Charles Ryan, and Bill Ryan. Honorary pallbearers include Gary Lively, Jimmy Cox, and Russell DuPree.
