Sandra May Specht was the first of two children born to Ida Lucille Stevens and Charles Benjamin Specht Jr. Except for a few years in the Des Moines area, she lived most of her younger life in Marshalltown and graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1959. A few years later, Sandy enrolled in a nursing program with the Eastern Iowa Community College in the Quad Cities. She graduated in August 1967 with an LPN license. She worked in Veterans hospitals and also enjoyed working with elderly patients. She had a good sense of humor (inherited from her father) which you might note on her grave marker.

On 13 June 1964 she and Joseph Leonard Fiems exchanged vows in Bettendorf, Iowa. Their marriage produced four children; Noel Thomas, Tani Jo, Justin Charles, and Elizabeth Ann. Sadly, their marriage did not last and they divorced after twenty four years of being together.

Sandy continued to work and even returned to school to learn another vocation after health problems prevented her from working as a nurse. She loved her cats and enjoying her hobbies of fishing, crocheting, quilting, and many other crafts. Over the course of her lifetime she created over 500 blankets, quilts, and throws, most going to family and friends while donating others to good causes. She also enjoyed traveling and visited friends and family in Alaska, Graceland, Texas, Colorado, Mexico, Florida, and Italy. She especially enjoyed her time and moments with her many grandchildren.

Sandy died the day after suffering a stroke on December 1, 2015, at Hancock County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held December 7, 2015, at Anderson Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Sandra's son Noel was the Eulogist for the service and the casket bearers were: Noel Fiems, Steve Tanio, Tony Sents, Justin Fiems, Casanova Fiems, Joey Meyer, Heck Tanio and Tony Sents Jr. Interment took place in the Albion Cemetery in Albion, IA.

Left to remember her were her children: Noel (Barbara) Fiems; Tani (Steve) Tanio; Justin (Heidi) Fiems; and Annie (Tony) Sents. She was survived by 26 grandkids and 2 great-grandkids: Tiffany & Leonardo Fiems; Katy, Joey, Justine, Jaymee, & Heck Thomas Tanio; Allison (Blaine) Edwards, Hailey, Caitlyn, Casanova, Sebastiano, Alexander, Ezekiel, & Parker Fiems; Isabelle, Samantha, Gwendolyn, Tony Jr, Violet, Mackenzie, Jack, Melody, & Hunter Sents; Kendra & Gabriel Edwards.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Calvin.
