John Cornwell (Born between 1794-1800, died before 1840) appears as head of household Bedford County TN census in 1830. By 1840, wife Stacy (Farmer), daughter of Nathan Farmer and Margaret "Peggy" Wheeler is the head of household (Bedford County TN). Based on the birth of the last child and his absence from the 1840 census, John is estimated deceased between 1834-1839 in Bedford,TN. No grave has been located. Probate records for Nathan Farmer also confirm the marriage of John and Stacy.

John and Stacy had five children, four which have been documented. Daughters Rebecca and Mary are found in the Pontotoc MS census in 1850 in the household of Stacey Cornel, both born in TN. Two sons, Larkin and Nathan Cornell, were both born in SC, and both got married in Pontotoc MS during the 1850s. Larkin lived with his first wife, Mary Thomas, daughter of Solomon Thomas, in Pontotoc MS in 1850. Rebecca married George B. Stanford and Nathan married Clarinda Orr in 1851 on the same day. The witness to Rebecca's marriage was Daniel Burton, who married Mary Cornwell the following year (1852), also in Pontotoc.

DNA data also link Nathan and Larkin to common ancestors of Edward Cornwell, Sr. of Rutherford, NC (Abt 1744- Abt 1823) and John Cornwell of Prince William County, VA (<1743-c1778).

Based on the location of his father-in-law, Nathan Farmer and William Cornwell (b. c1766-74 d. aft. 1820), both of Spartanburg, SC, John appears to be a son of William, and it appears he married Stacy Farmer in Spartanburg, SC about 1824-25.
