His parents were Sgt. Louis Genereau Jr. of Co. K, 1st Michigan Sharpshooters (1844-1871) and of Louisa Duvernay Genereau (1847-1918). He married at least twice, first in 1889 to Sarah Wasageshic, by whom he had at least one daughter, Erelena Genereau (1890-1925), and in 1907 to Elizabeth Lake, by whom he had a son, Orrin Alexander, who survived him. He is buried in a Duvernay family plot along with daughter Erelena and mother Louisa Duvernay Genereau, none of whose graves is marked.
