Chester L. Kirk, 97, passed away December 5, 2015. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, December 10, 2015, in Oakwood Cemetery with Bro. Jerry Cotton officiating.


Chester was born in Pursley, Texas, to the late Osceola Biggars and Ella Belle Moore Kirk. He was a longtime resident of Cayuga. Chester retired after 40 years with Texaco Oil Co. and served in the U.S Air Force in Germany during World War II.


He loved the outdoors, catfishing and hunting along the Trinity River near Cayuga. He also enjoyed working on engines from small lawnmowers to large 1000 Horse power gas compressors for the oil company.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Davis Kirk; a son Elbert Lee Kirk; and brothers, Roger and Alley Kirk.


Survivors include his son, James L. Kirk and wife, Deborah, of Mobile AL; daughter-in-law, Linda Kirk, of Athens; grandchildren: James M. Kirk and Jamie L. Robinson, of Mobile, AL, Tommy Kirk and wife, Michelle, of Athens, Kristy Taylor and Ginger Slaughter, of Winnsboro; 10 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
