Arline Schmelzer, 94, died Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Madonna Towers in Rochester.

Arline “Jake” Josephine Jacobson was born on August 31, 1921, in Rockford, IL to Alexis and Ellen (Hedlund) Jacobson. Jake graduated from Rockford High School, married Lee and shared life together, farming much of the time.

She worked as a bookkeeper early and late in her working years.

Family and faith were the priorities of her life, serving God while serving others.

She raised their daughter Jill and helped raise many nieces and nephews all the while gardening, canning, freezing, sewing, entertaining. Later she enjoyed and helped raise grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

Jake served God through her church and in all of life, giving in whatever ways were needed. She was organized and energetic in whatever she did.

She is much loved by her daughter, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren and she established a wonderful example of how to live life fully, selflessly, and joyfully as a child of God.

Jake was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Schmelzer who died on March 5, 2008; parents; brother, Arnold Jacobson; and sister, Bernice Pearson.

The funeral service will be 1:00 p.m.on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at Rochester Covenant Church, with Reverend Herb Frost officiating.
The burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2015, in the Scandinavian Cemetery in Rockford, Il.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Rochester Covenant Church 4950 31 st Ave NW, Rochester, MN 55901.
