Alice Marie Courtney, passed away September 29, 2008, at the age of 94. She was born March 7, 1914, the daughter of Charles Oran Blades and Frances Delilah Woodin. She worked at Brunswick, Portage Central J.H., and as a senior companion to the elderly. Alice was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church. She enjoyed and loved her grandchildren, family, friends, photography, travel, and playing her harmonica.


Surviving are four grandchildren, Tracy B. Courtney, Beth A. Mattera, Becky M. Smothers, and Patty J. Higdon; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Adeline Blades; many nieces and nephews; and longtime friend, Katie Ratliff. Preceding her in death were her parents; 12 siblings; her husband, Kenneth B. Courtney; son, Larry B. Courtney; grandson, Larry J. Courtney; and great-grandson, Shaun Courtney.


Family and friends are invited to meet the family for a memorial service at the First Free Will Baptist Church, 630 Moline, in Comstock on Saturday, November 22 at 11:00. A light luncheon will follow immediately following the service.


The interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Local arrangements have been entrusted to Langeland Family Funeral Homes. Please visit www.langelands.com to sign the online registration book or leave a condolence to the family.
