BIO written by Dessau7, descendant of 3rd Great Grandfather Mendel Reinbach.

Mendel Michel Reinbach was the husband of Esther Bruck. They were Ashkenazic Jews. Mendel's Hebrew name was Menachem ben Jechiel Awraham. He was the father of three (known at this time) sons and one daughter, born in Altona, Germany:

♡ Louis Reinbach (1810 - 1894) md Bertha Jablonski
♡ Henry Reinbach (1812 - 1878) md Sophia Dessau
♡ David Reinbach (1813 - 1895) md Johanna JW Behrend
♡ Chaie Hannchen Reinbach (1822- 1891) md Philippe Seligmann
♡ Betty Reinbach ( ? - 1865) md Joseph Jacob Polack

Both Louis and Henry eventually immigrated to Franklin, Morgan County, Illinois, USA in the 1840s. The official German Death Registration Certificates for David Reinbach and for his younger sister Chaie Hannchen Reinbach Seligmann, identify Mendel Michel Reinbach and Esther Bruck as their parents.

In early May 1850, Henry traveled to Hamburg, Germany where he married Sophia Dessau on Sep 4, 1850. They immediately returned to Franklin, Illinois where he continued to thrive as an influential businessman.

On Aug 29, 1853, Louis Reinbach married Prussian-born Bertha Jablonski. Of note, Louis unfortunately was the victim of discrimination when he was wrongly accused of theft as a U.S. Postmaster in Bruckville, IL. On Jan 25th, 1858, Louis Reinbach was represented by Abraham Lincoln, Springfield, Illinois Legal Counselor, in the lawsuit; U.S. vs Reinbach. Louis Reinbach had been accused of stealing money from several letters. Reinbach retained Lincoln, pleaded not guilty, and the jury found him Not Guilty. All historical documentation regarding this trial, including newspaper articles, list of jurors, the name of the judge, and correspondence, is available on the Lincoln Log website and via Abraham Lincoln Papers: The Law Practice of Abraham Lincoln. http://www.lawpracticeofabrahamlincoln.org/Results.aspx File ID: L02282

David Reinbach traveled from Hamburg, Germany to the USA in June 1882. He was accompanied by Johanna J W (Jacobine Wilelmine) Behrend and 18 year old daughter Louise Wilhelmine Behrend where David married Johanna on September 11, 1882. Their time in the United States was brief as documents show they were living in Hamburg by 1890. Sons Henry and Louis remained in Illinois where Henry was a successful Merchant and community leader. The name Reinbach still exists as a street in Franklin, Illinois.
