RITES WEDNESDAY FOR MRS. BROTHERTON…
Funeral services for Mrs. Velma Elzira Brotherton, 501 Railroad Ave., will be held at 2 Wednesday afternoon at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Leland Hall officiating. Mrs. Brotherton died at 9 :40 Saturday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Hanley, following a 90 day illness suffering from senility.
She was born at Iowa, La., July 30, 70 years ago to the late C. H. and Elzria Morley Gilson. She came to West Plains in 1909 from Louisiana. In 1910 she was married to Gurdine Brotherton. He died Nov. 26, 1947.
Surviving are seven sons, Edgar Brotherton, Elza Brotherton, Charles Brotherton, and Geral Dean Brotherton all of Grand Rapids, Mich., Earl Brotherton Santa Ana, Calif., James Brotherton Caldonia, Mich., and Ralph Brotherton, Jewett City, Conn., and five daughters, Bessie Blankenship, Cloverdale, Ore., Bertha White, Cambria, Calif., Ollie Bowen, Flushing, Mich., Mary Hanley and Alice Acklin, both of West Plains; a brother Rufus Gilson, Iowa, La.
Mrs. Brotherton was a church member for more than 50 years with membership for the past eight years at First Baptist Church here where she was a member of the TEL Class.
Burial will be beside her husband in Dripping Springs Cemetery under the direction of the Robertson Funeral Home.
