The son of Joshua Hollen and Mary Marrah Lankford Hollen he was born in Indiana. He came to Indian Territory after the death of his first wife, Clara Alice Belcher, and their twins. He met Nancy Elizabeth Johnston while doing some work for her father. They fell in love and married on August 26, 1901. They were the parents of 7 children six of which lived to adulthood. A daughter preceeded him in death 2 weeks before his own. He was a hard working man much beloved by his family and was sorely missed. He liked to sing and whistle and sometimes to help keep the kids working when the family was picking cotton he would urge them to go so many rows and the have everyone stop for a brief rest while he sang them one of their favorite songs.
He had blue black hair and was well over 6 feet tall.
