Sovereign Prince of Liechtenstein. He was born the son of Prince Alois von Liechtenstein and Archduchess Elisabeth Amelia of Austria. His Godfather was Kaiser Franz Josef I of Austria-Hungary. Prince Franz Josef II married Countess Gina von Wilczek. He was the father of reigning Prince Hans-Adam. He became Sovereign Prince of Liechtenstein in 1938. He is well remembered for keeping his country out of the second world war and saving many people from certain death. In 1984 he handed over most of his day to day responsibilities to his son Prince Hans-Adam while retaining the title of Sovereign Prince. He was widely mourned on his death and is fondly remembered by the people of Liechtenstein.
