Mr. Barney Frank Downer, age 95, of Griffin, GA, passed away Friday December 11, 2015 at Brightmoor Hospice Care in Griffin. He was born September 12, 1920 in Siloam, GA in Greene Co. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George W. Downer and Betty Lee Downer and brothers, Melton Lee Downer, Lewis H. Downer and George H. Downer. He is survived by his sister, Peggy (James) Varnadoe; Nephews, Barney Lee (Kathy) Downer, and Ryan (Jennifer) Varnadoe; Nieces, Cindy (John) Haluska and Shonda (Gary) Hately; several great-nieces and 1 great-nephew.

Barney served our country in the United Sates Marine Corps during WWII. He lived much of his life in Crawford, GA. He retired from Westclox in Athens, GA in 1983. He loved camping in Cherokee, NC with family and friends at every opportunity. He loved his family and friends and was devoted to helping them in any way that he could. He will be dearly missed by all.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 13, at 2:00pm at Mallorysville Baptist Church in Tignall, GA with the funeral following at 3:00 pm. Reverend Thomas Moon will officiate. Interment will follow at Mallorysville Baptist Church Cemetery.
