Mrs. Donnelly Is Gone To Reward. Shining Light In Butte Society and Club Life
Succumbs After Operation
Mrs. Ignatius Donnelly passed away in death yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock in
St. James hospital in this city.
Mrs. Donnelly had bee ill less than a week, having sung at the Elks' memorial
services in Virginia City the Sunday previous. But when she returned to this
city Monday she complained of feeling ill and grew rapidly worse until Tuesday,
when she was taken to the hospital. The symptoms seemed to point to
appendicitis and the patient insisted that an operation be performed, although
her physician advised against it.
Wednesday, the operation was performed, and though successful, it was fount that
peritonitis was the cause of her intense suffering. For 24 hours there seemed
no chance for her recovery, then a change came which gave the anxious watchers a
faint hope that splendid health and youth of the patient would carry her
through, and that was possible was done by the physicians to save her life. But
yesterday afternoon she began to sink rapidly and in a short time passed into
that sleep which also frees the soul and gives rest to the form that enfolds it.
Mrs. Donnelly was formerly Miss Marie Louise Kimball and was born in Wilson,
Newbery county, New York. She graduated from Ithaca high school and was a student in Cornell university. She came West to St. Paul with her folks, where she was married to Dr. Ignatius Donnelly in 1897. The following year Mr. and Mrs. Donnelly came to Butte, where they have resided since.
In the five years Mrs. Donnelly has made this city her home, she has been active
in club and musical circles, and has made many sincere friends. She has been a
leader in St. Patrick's choir for several years and possessed a voice of great sweetness and power. When a mere babe this gifted woman sang before she could talk and her voice has remained one of her chief charms and added to the pleasure of thousands of people.
Her nature was sunny, her mind strong and her heart true and those who were
fortunate enough to be counted within the inner circle as friends loved her devotedly. She was a loving wife and tender mother, and in these last moments called her loved ones to her and spoke words of cheer to them, and advised her
husband regarding the care of their little sons. Besides the immediate family,
there is a mother and brother in this city and a sister in St. Paul who will miss her from out the daily life.
The passing away of Mrs. Donnelly means a decided loss to Butte, as she was one
of those broad-natured women whose influence is always for good in the upbuilding of society. Her friends are counted by the hundreds and they sympathize with the husband and two little son, also with the mother, sister and brother who are left to miss her kindly love and presence.
