Michael Stacy Acheson, 61, of Alma, Kansas, died Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was a long-time resident of the area.

Mike was born May 22, 1954, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Cecil Ray and Lola Marie (Brown) Acheson. At the age of 12, Mike was adopted by Bob and Ruth Parrish. Mike enlisted in the United States Army and served in Germany during the Viet Nam War.

Mike retired after working for Westar Energy Company for 35 years. Most of that time he was a Control Room Operator. He lived in Abilene, Wamego and finally in Alma. He loved nature and anything outdoors. He was known for his landscaping skills and designs. He adored his children and grandchildren and loved spending time at their activities and events. His grandchildren knew him as a jokester and enjoyed his sense of humor. Mike served as a Girl Scout leader and a softball coach. He was a member of the Electrical Brotherhood Union, the Tri State Coalition Motorcycle Club, and the Alma United Methodist Church.

Mike married Pearl Barlow on May 10, 1975, in Enterprise, Kansas. She survives at their home.

He is also survived by his daughters, Brandy Myers (Robert), Humboldt, and Cecelia Courter (Trevor), Valley Falls; his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jessica and Robert Jr., Myers, Taggert and Katie Courter; his siblings, Ray Acheson (Donna), Agnes Stephens (Leon), Cecilia Acheson, Tammy Parrish, Michael Taylor, Pam Rein, Debbie Copenhaver, and Greg Taylor; and sisters-in-law, Edith Wallis, and Betty Acheson. He was preceded in death by his parents, his adoptive parents, his step-mother, Grace Acheson, his parents-in-law, Herbert and Alta Barlow, and siblings Marlene and Charles Meares.

A celebration of Mike’s life, with breakfast, will be held at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at First United Methodist Church in Abilene, Kansas. Graveside inurnment with military honors will follow at 11:30 a.m., at the Abilene Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Ariya Robinson Treatment Fund, and those may be sent in care of Campanella-Gentry Funeral Home in Alma.
