Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Ridgecrest Foundation or to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice.
Joyce was born and raised in Davenport. She graduated from Davenport High School in 1948 and from Moline Lutheran Hospital in 1951 as a registered nurse. While raising her family she was active in PTA and Junior Theatre. She later attended Augustana College to be commissioned as an associate in ministry for the Lutheran Church. Joyce served on the staff at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport for 17 years in various capacities, including hospital visitation and as director of Christian education. She also served as the first president of the Quad-Cities CommUniversity. Joyce volunteered at Madison Elementary School as an after-school coordinator and as a teacher's aide. She was a member of Chapter LH, PEO Sisterhood, was a member of King’s Daughters and served on many committees at St. Paul.
As a result of many European trips after retirement, she and her husband presented numerous slideshows of their experiences and also became self-taught presenters on the subject of stained glass. Although Joyce collected many items, teddy bears were a decided favorite.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Paul in 2014, and her parents, Myrtle and Enoch Daly. She is survived by her children, Paul (Susan) Bohnsack II of Apple Valley, Minn., and Stephanie (Robin) Canterbury of Davenport; brothers, Tom (Diane) Daly of Davenport and Terry (Eleanor) Daly of Warren, Mich.; grandchildren, Kelly (Carrie) Canterbury and Rebecca (Jeff) Sharpe; great-grandchildren, Curtis Canterbury, Emmeline and Corrina Sharpe; three nephews; one niece and their families.
The family wishes to thank all those who provided care for Joyce and those who offered her expressions of comfort.
