Erna was born in (Ksiazki, Ksionsken, Wabrzezno, Poland) Hohenkirch, Westpreußen on June 11, 1930 to Josef Stelzer and Mathilde Pinna.
As a child during World War II, she was taken by the Russians and put into a prison camp at the age of 15 in 1944. After the war, she was put on a train designated to Berlin, Germany. There she as taken in by a couple.
She married, but it didn't last long as she felt her husband wanted a servant so she divorced him.
Her brothers found her in Berlin and helped her to escape as it was surrounded by barbed wire. She found work on a farm.
Later working as a waitress in Erlangen, Germany, she met and married Warren Friday on the 24 August 1957. They had their first child, Janet at Stuttgart. She then emigrated to the United States to Ft. Lewis, Washington. There she had 2 more daughters, Eva and Caroline who were both born at Tacoma, Washington.
They then moved back to Germany where they had a son, Jamie who was born in Heidelberg. They then moved to San Antonio, Texas, then to Landstuhl, Germany where she was pregnant with another son, Warren Jr. who died as an infant. Warren had him flown to San Antonio, Texas for burial. He is buried at Ft. Sam cemetery.
From Landstuhl, They moved to Portland, Oregon where Warren was a recruiter for the Army. They moved from there to Manhattan, Kansas so Warren could retire where he enlisted in the U.S. Army at Ft. Riley. He retired at the rank of Master Sargent. They then moved to Edmond, Oklahoma where they remained.
Erna could speak Polish, German, Russian and English and was very fond of book reading and watching her church channel on t.v.
