Joseph Mass was held here at St Patrick's Cathedral
In Manhattan NYC ...today Dec 30 2015
Where hundreds turned out across the country

A Sea of Blue Uniforms could be seen for
Miles along Fifth Ave
The decorated 15-year veteran of the NYPD, who made
590 arrests during his career, served in the 48th Precinct
in the Bronx before joining the Bronx Street Crime Unit and
Bronx Warrant Squad

Joseph was promoted to Dect. First Class
NYPD

Husband of Christine
Father of Brook and Ryan

At the Gate of Heaven , under a dizzy foggy day
a three-volley salute from an
Air Force rifle squad and a mournful playing of Taps
All overpass along the route from Manhattan to
Gate of Heaven, had Fire Dept and
Police in Honor as they went up the highways
And parkways to his resting place .

God Speed Joseph and Thank You ..

One of the Photos here, is with his Air Force Buddies
Who Died with Him on that day .

From ABC News this morning

A veteran NYPD detective was among the six members of the military killed in Afghanistan, the department said in a statement Monday night.

Det. Joseph Lemm, a member of the Air National Guard, was a 15-year member of the department and a father of two.

6 Americans Killed in Afghanistan Suicide Attack
"Earlier today, we lost one of our Finest in a suicide bombing in Bagram, Afghanistan," Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said in a statement.

"Detective Joseph Lemm epitomized the selflessness we can only strive for: putting his country and city first."

Lemm was promoted to detective in January 2014 and served in the Bronx Warrant Squad. He was deployed three times -- twice to Afghanistan and once to Iraq, Bratton said.

"Tonight, we grieve and we remember this selfless public servant who dedicated his life to protecting others," Bratton said.

In addition to those killed, two American service members and a contractor were injured during a patrol outside Bagram Air Base.

"It is with deep regret that I learned today that six U.S. service members died in Afghanistan Monday," Defense Secretary Ash Carter said in a statement. Carter. "We are still learning all of the details, but two other service members and a U.S. contractor were also injured. They died after a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device attack on their patrol outside Bagram Air Base. It serves as a painful reminder of the dangers our troops face every day in Afghanistan."

Bagram houses the majority of the 9,800 troops in Afghanistan, part of Operation Resolute Support, in place to train and assist Afghan military forces.
