Mr. R.D. Black from Greeneville to the Knoxville Chronicle under date of the 11th inst. as follows: "A little gloom is thrown over us today by the sudden death of Mr. Vol. Jones, who was taken last night, or rather early this morning. He died at 5 p.m. He has been engaged in the Clerk and Master's office here for some time, and being born and raised here, was well known throughout the country. He had not felt well for a day or two, but like too many others, neglected his case until he was violently taken. It soon became apparent that he was beyond the reach of medical aid. He sank rapidly, and lay for several hours in an unconscious state.
