Lawrence D. McCandless, 73 of Winslow, IN went to be with his Lord December 23, 2015 at his residence after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Oakland City, IN on November 12, 1942 to Lawrence "Pud" and Kathleen (Amos) McCandless. He grew up in the Winslow area and attended the Winslow schools. He was a member of the Winslow High School Class of 1960. He served his country from 1964-66 with the Airborne 1st Cav. Unit 229th as a door gunner on a UH1 Huey helicopter in An Ke, Viet Nam. He worked in security for the Pinkerton Detective Agency and Clark Security for many years. In later years he was employed by the Pike County School Corporation. September 21, 2002 he married Trea Curtis in Winslow. At the time of his death, he was President of Winslow Lions Club; District 25E Leo Chairman and State Leo Chairman. He was a member of the Glezen General Baptist Church and served as Church Trustee. He was a member of the Petersburg Moose; Petersburg VFW; Winslow American Legion; Eagles Lodge of Winslow; and Disabled American Veterans. He served Pike County as a County Councilman and County Commissioner. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Alicia Jean and a son Christopher D. both from a previous marriage. Visitation will be Wednesday December 30th at Glezen General Baptist Church from 1:00pm till 8:00pm with a Lions service at 7:00pm and from 9am until service time on Thursday December 31. Services will be officiated by Rev. Eddie Willis at 2:00pm with Burial at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
