UNION - James Hillard Vinson, 87, of Oakmont Nursing Home, formerly of 300 Scott St., died Jan. 25, 1997, in Wallace Thomson Hospital, following an extended illness.
A native of West Springs, he was the widower of Mertie Enlow Vinson and son of the late Edna Vinson Moore and stepson of the late Frank Moore. He was a member of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church, Order of the Eastern Star-Amarantha, and a life member of the John A. Fant Masonic Lodge. He was retired from Milliken Co., Monarch and Ottaray Plants and Excel Hosiery Mill. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Survivors include one daughter, Margaret Hughey of Union; seven grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dale Lynch and Dr. Joe Bridges. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to MonAetna Baptist Church, Building Fund, 1431 Lockhart Highway, Union; or to Meals on Wheels, c/o Monte Lancaster, Arthur State Bank, Union, 29379.
The family is at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. M.C. Hughey, 107 S. Evans St., Union.
