Mrs. Stephen (Irene) Urbanec, age 84, of 645 S. Mitchell Ave., Arlington Heights, Ill., died early on Monday morning, Aug. 27, 2007, at her summer residence at Spring Lake.

The former Irene McNeil, was born on Jan. 27, 1923, in St. Paul, Minn., daughter of the late Robert and Doris (Roberts) McNeil. She grew up in Manitowoc, and was a 1940 graduate of Lincoln High School, Manitowoc. Irene attended the University of Wisconsin Manitowoc-Extension and the Chicago Art Institute. Irene was an accomplished artist, worked for the Arlington Heights Public Library and taught art at Our Lady of Wayside Catholic Grade School in Arlington Heights. On Sept. 9, 1950, Irene was married to Stephen Urbanec at Holy Innocents Catholic Church in Manitowoc. She was a member of Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church, the Church's Altar and Rosary Society.

Survivors include her husband: Stephen of Arlington Heights, Ill.; six children and their spouses: Stephen J. Urbanec, Arlington Heights, Ill.; Michael D. (Darlene) Urbanec, Mansfield, La.; Patricia (Robert) Fly, Tenino, Wash.; Robert Urbanec; Jen (Scott) Schubr, all of Newton; and John (Kelly) Urbanec, Cleveland; 12 grandchildren: Tad, Robert, Michael, Elizabeth, Maggie, James, Scotty, Deb, Christopher, Melissa, Jason and Jolene; one great-grandchild; three nieces and one nephew: Michele (Richard) Hallwachs; Margie (Mathew) Meyer; Theresa Patrick; and Jim (Sheryl) Patrick; other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

Irene will be cremated with no formal funeral services planned.

The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc, is serving the Urbanec family.

Funeral services for Irene Urbanec, who passed away on Aug. 27, 2007, will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill. Deacon James Steffen will officiate, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call at church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m.

The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the Urbanec Family.
