James A. Duncan, 84, of Cartersville, died September 6, 2006 at the Cartersville Medical Center, Mr. Duncan, affectionately known as "Duncan" by his many friends was born on Januaray 3, 1922 in Sylvania, Alabama to the late Roscoe and Cannie Belle Duncan. He retired from Warlick-Jones Chervolet Company in Cartersville, and during his retirement years he served as a bailiff for the Bartow County Judical Court System. All who knew him valued his expertise as a master mechanic. He enjoyed gardening, walking and the outdoors. One of his greatest attributes was perfection in what he did and taking care in doing the best when performing a task. He also loved animals, especially dogs. His dog brought him many hours of enjoyment, especially when his health began to fail. Preceding "Duncan" in death were his brother, George Duncan, and a sister, Eunice Baker. Survivors include his devoted wife, Edna Geurin Duncan, and his beloved daughter and her husband, Judi and Sid Oakley, of Marietta. Also surviving are a sister, Mary Alice Brisendine, of Fort Payne, Alabama, a brother, Robert Duncan, of Marietta, and a very special sister in law, Ruth Fox, of Cartersville. Additionally, several nieces and nephews also survive as well as a host of friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 8, 2006, from the Chapel of the Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Barbara Davidson officiating and Rev. Steven Horne officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, with military rites, as James A. Duncan served in the Navy and Marines during World War Two. Pallbearers will be Richard Fox, Gary Fox, Judge Tom Pope, Leon Millholland, Jr. and Lowell Croft. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cassville United Methodist Church or to the Parkinson's Association.
