DEATH OF JOHN FOX
It is with sincere regret that we hear of the death of our old time friend, Mr. John Fox, which took place in New York, on Tuesday, the 10th inst. Mr. Fox was a native of Charleston, S. C.; came here in 1847, when he became employed as a clerk in the well known house of James Conoly & Co., of which he soon after became a partner. When that house stopped business in New Orleans, Mr. Fox removed to New York and soon took position of chief member and manager of the extensive Steamship Agency Company of Livingston, Fox & Co.
At the time of his death Mr. Fox was one of the firm of Fox, Flash & Co., commission merchants in New York.
Mr. John Fox's first wife was a Miss Watts, of Fayette, North Carolina, by whom he had two sons - both of whom died. His second wife was Miss Bouligny, daughter of that old time and highly respected citizen, Mr. Gustave Bouligny. He leaves a wife and four children to mourn over the loss of an affectionate husband and an indulgent father.
Mr. John Fox was a most accomplished merchant, was strictly and scrupulously honest in his dealings with his fellow men, and came as near being a perfect man, professionally and socially, as any person we ever knew here or elsewhere. There are many of us, belonging to the ancien regime, who will take pleasure and pride in cherishing the memory of that honest merchant, genial companion and true friend, John Fox.
