Brother to Roger de Pitres, who accompanied William the Conqueror to England in 1066. It is unknown if Durand also accompanied the Conqueror.

Durand succeeded his brother as Sheriff of Gloucester and Constable of Gloucester Castle in 1083. Both were buried at St. Peter's Abbey, a Benedictine Abbey founded in 1022. It was dissolved by Henry VIII in 1540 and became Gloucester Cathedral a year later.
