James Willis Low Jr, the son and the sea captain of the same name.

Low served as a lieutenant in the 2nd NJ State Militia (3 months) at the outbreak of the war and has served also served in the Hudson Brigade before the war.

In 1863, he was commissioned officer in the 21st NJ infantry during the civil war and was wounded slightly at Salem Heights, May 1863.

After the war he lived in Jersey City, and later Brooklyn for a time as a merchant. He moved to Ayers, Mass with his wife Elizabeth in the 1880s. Low was a member of the George S Boutwell GAR Post No 48, Ayer, Mass during his later days.

He died 4/16/1896 of heart disease at 73 yrs.
