Ruth Briggs Walton, age 88 passed away at Lamoni Nursing and Rehab Center.
Ruth was born with her twin sister Elizabeth October 18, 1908, in Manila Philippine Islands where her father George N. Briggs was Superintendent of Schools.
Her mother passed away soon after her birth. She was sent back to America by ship accompanied by a Philippine nurse. She and her two sisters were taken to their Grandmother Judd in Garden Grove, Iowa. Her father subsequently remarried and moved to Lamoni to become President of Graceland College.
Ruth and her two sisters as well as 3 half-brothers and 2 half-sisters all attended Graceland. Ruth went to the University of Iowa where she graduated from the school of nursing.
She married John Walton who preceded her in death. Her oldest sister Dorothy Sandage preceded her in death as well as half-sister Mary Briggs Gerdes and half brother George Briggs, Jr.
Survivors include two sisters Beth Wheeler of Albia, Iowa, Margo Baker and Roland Briggs of Lamoni, and brother Philip Briggs of Sacramento, Ca., several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at Rose Hill at a future date.
