Emma Holt White was the daughter of industrial pioneer and planter Edwin Michael Holt and the wife of merchant and planter James W. White. Her brother Thomas Michael Holt served as governor of North Carolina from 1891-93. She died in Washington, D.C., while on a visit north in 1904.
