LEBANON ----- Funeral services were held Monday, October 20, 2003 at the Nave Funeral Home for Mrs. Abney, 83. Born in Overton County, she was a housewife and had lived in Lebanon for the past 27 years. Mrs. Abney died October 16, 2003 at the University Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Jim and Ella Gaw Brown and a member of the United Pentecostal Church. Services were conducted by Pastor Daniel Stirnemann with burial in Old Union Cemetery in Overton County.

Survivors include: children, Darlene (Eddie) Smith and Richard (Ramona) Abney -- of Lebanon, Juanita (James) Smith of Greenfield, Ind. and Judy (Ross) Smith and John (Terri) Abney ---- both of Indianapolis, Ind.; ten grandchildren survive as do six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Zella Daniels and Vula Daniels Humel of Lebanon, Bessie Thomas of Alexandria and Anna Sherrills of Cottontown; and brother, Haskell Brown of Celina. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, George Albert Abney. Nave Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
