JACOB GOERTZ

(1839 • 1900)

Friday night Mr. Gertz of Gibson, while visiting a friend was fatally injured. After having unhitched his horse he asked his friend if he had any fat cattle and was answered in the affirmative. Then Mr. Gertz said he would like to see them. He was shown some steers and requested not to go near them for they were very liable to kick. Mr. Gertz did not heed the advice and while feeling how fleshy one of them was he received a kick in the lower part of the abdomen. A doctor was summoned but the internal injuries he received were beyond medical skill. He died while suffering severe pain Sunday morning at the age of 59.

He leaves a wife and four children to mourn his loss. He was a kind father and a devoted husband.
