Riverton, March 20. - Mrs. Mary Shumate, 61 years old, died at her home here at 3:15 o'clock this morning following an illness of nine months. She had been confined to her bed for only several days.

Mrs. Shumate was well known in Riverton and the surrounding community and had a large hose of friends in centeral Illinois.

She was correspondent for The Illinois State Journal and the Springfield Register for 23 years.

Besides her husband, H.H. Shumate of this city, she leaves three daughters, Mrs. N. Farnworth, of Gillespie; Mrs. George Bauer, of Chicago; and Mrs. A.F. Penneman, of Danville; two sons, George B. and John McNeely, of Riverton; and one brother, John Pluss, of Springfield. There are eight grandchildren.
