Warren Resident Answers Summons

Frank Andrew, Brother Of Mrs. Charles Borne, Dies Of Paralysis

Frank E. Andrew, 65, lifelong resident of Warren, died at his home there at midnight Monday, following a short illness. Death was due to a stroke of paralysis.

The decedent was born Oct. 9, 1874, in Warren to James W. and Sarah E. Irvin[sic-Irwin] Andrew. He was married to Nora O'Neill, who survives. For many years Mr. Andrew had operated a confectionery at Warren. The past year he had been employed at the Goldseal drug store in that city.

Surviving besides the widow are a daughter, Mrs. Roger Good, of Warren, and two sisters, Mrs. Charles Borne, of Bluffton, and Mrs. A. A. Zike, of Robinson, Ill. A daughter is deceased.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Congregational Christian church at Warren in charge of Rev. F. E. Rockwell, of North Manchester, former pastor of the Warren church. Burial will be in the Woodlawn cemetery.

Frank Edwin Andrew

Frank E. Andrew was the only son of James W. and Sarah E. (Irwin) Andrew. He owned and operated popular eating establishments in Warren. He father was born in Clinton County, OH March 8, 1847 to Calvin and Susan (Shields) Andrew and died in Warren Sept. 18, 1908. His mother was born Aug. 28, 1850, the daughter of Jonathan and Asenath (Logue) Andrew. Sarah died April 6, 1924.

Frank had three sisters; Rosa, born March 3, 1873 and died in 1919. She had married Charles L. Maybe. Cora, born Dec. 5, 1877, and died Sept. 18, 1955 in Illinois. She married Alva Zike on Oct. 7, 1896. Grace was born Feb. 19, 1884 in Warren and died in Bluffton, IN April 15, 1968. She had married Charles Borne of Bluffton, IN on Dec. 25, 1905.

Frank married Nora Elizabeth O'Neil on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, 1898. She had been born to James William and Rachel Luella (Johnson) O'Neil on Oct. 18, 1880 in Converse, IN and died December 1966 at the Methodist Memorial Home at Warren, IN. Nora's father was said to have been born in New York City, the son of Timothy and Kitty O'Neil, Irish immigrants. Her mother was the daughter of Cyrus Hinkle and Mary Elizabeth (Vernon) Johnson. Cyrus was born in Clinton County, OH in 1838 and Mary on Dec. 4, 1842 in Guernsey County, OH. Nora was well known in the Warren area for her musical ability and had served her church, Congregational Christian, as choir director for over 50 years. She later married Delmar Huffman of Wells County.

Frank Andrew worked most of his life in the food business. As a boy he helped his father in the grocery, and in the early 1900s was proprietor of a cigar and confectionery store (even making his own pulled taffy). About 1927 or 1928, he had a hamburger stand at the southwest corner of Wayne and Second Streets next to the Police Building in Warren. In the late 1930s, he made and distributed ice cream in the surrounding area for the Tam and Bonifield Drugstore.

Frank and Nora had three children, one son and two daughters: James E. born July 2, 1902, died October 1902; Lillian Norene, born Sept. 16, 1903, died April 10, 1939 Tucson, AZ. She married Aug. 3, 1924 to Guy B. Huber. Lillian and Guy had two sons, Joseph Caleb, born Sept. 12, 1925 and David Andrew, born Sept. 20, 1926. Zerelda Wallace, born May 29, 1908, died Sept. 16, 1955 in Fort Wayne, IN. Married Roger Irwin Good, July 13, 1928 in Wabash, IN. Zerelda and Roger had four children: John Franklin, born May 3, 1930, died Sept. 21, 1986 in Phoenix, AZ; Nancy Irwin, born March 25, 1934; Robert Andrew, born Dec. 15, 1942; and Margaret Ann born April 28, 1946.
