Elmer "Lindy" Lindstrom, died on Friday, (Dec. 20, 2002), at Salmon Brook Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born October 1, 1912 in Hartford. Elmer was one of five children born to Swedish immigrants, Oscar, a carpenter, and Sigrid, a loving mother and member of the Salvation Army. Elmer honorably served in the United States Navy aboard the Battleship U.S.S. Mississippi from 1933 through 1937. He worked as a Production Engineer for United Aircraft for thirty-six years. Elmer married his wife, Marion Rose, in 1938. After a few years in Hartford, they moved to Marlborough, considered "the country" at the time. For the last thirty-eight years, they have lived in Glastonbury. In addition to his wife, Elmer leaves his daughter, Marion Cassells and her husband, Lawrence, of Bolton; his son, Douglas and longtime companion, Ilene Grueneberg of Glastonbury; and his son, Warren and his wife, Nancy of Deep River. Elmer had ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Elmer will be remembered for many things: his sense of humor, love for children, providing a safe, comfortable home for his family, his love for dancing with his talented wife, and his ability to make a world-class potato salad. He loved black licorice, pickled herring, and Sunday drives that included ice cream cones. Always an American patriot, he was also proud of his Swedish heritage.
