ANSWERED DEATH'S CALL
Aug. Messman of Carlton Passed Away on Monday


At seven o'clock Monday morning, Dec. 8th, August Messman, an old and respected citizen of the town of Carlton, passed away after a lingering illness of two years duration. Burial took place Thursday at one o'clock, P.M. from the Grrman Lutheran church at Sandy Bay, interment in the Maak cemetery.

Mr. Messman was born in Pentz, Province of Pommern, Germany on the 10th day of March 1847 and came to America with his parents in 1864. The family stayed in new York State one year and then came west, setting on a farm in the town of Carlton, where the deceased has since made his home up to the time of his death.

In 1869 Mr. Messman was united in wedlock to Miss Marie Westphal, who with five children survive him. The children are: Albert of Nebraska, Mrs. Herman Mathies of Gibson, Mrs. Geo. Jergenson of Sandy Bay, Mrs. Henry Kappleman of Two Creeks and Richard who lives at home. The deceased is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Christ. Ihlenfeldt of Mishicott.

Tisch Mills:
On Monday morning, August Messman, a pioneer resident of Sandy Bay, died at the family home, the funeral being held on Wednesday.

Mr. Messman was a kind man, a cheerful companion beloved and respected by all.

The surviving relatives have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community.
