Well-Known Business Man Expires at His Home in New York.
Michael Wagner died this morning at his home in New York, where he had resided for the last two years. He had been ill for a few weeks, but immediate cause of his death was a paralytic stroke.
Mr. Wagner was a native of New York, but he had been in business in Stamford since 1885. He was for some years a partner of Joseph Moll, and they conducted cigar stores in Main Street and in the old Town Hall, as well as carrying on a large wholesale business in cigars and tobacco in this and neighboring towns. A few years ago the partnership was dissolved, and the business was divided, Mr. Wagner opening a store on Main Street near Summer, and continuing a share of the wholesale business, his eldest son being associated with him.
Mr. Wagner was known as an industrious, energetic man, and succeeded in building up a large trade. He was respected in a circle of acquaintances both here and in New York, where his father was in business for many years, and one of his brothers is a practicing physician. Another brother Sol. Wagner proprietor of the St. Elmo cigar store in Atlantic Square. The deceased leaves a widow, four daughters - Mrs. Bick of New York, Mrs. Purdy of this city, Mildred and Ruth - and two sons, Lester and Gordon. The funeral will be help Wednesday from his late home in New York.
