NORVAL RAYMOND SAMS

Norval Raymond was born January 10, 1912, on a farm south of Decatur, Iowa, and died December 20, 1992, at his home in Crown Colony in Lamoni, Iowa at the age of 80 years. He was the first child of Warren and Mary Etta (Main) Sams On


On June 27, 1938, he married Arlene Margaret McKee at Bethany, Missouri.


Norval worked as a farmer, truck driver, and was a custodian at Lamoni Community Schools and Graceland College.


Norval held the office of teacher in the Davis City RLDS Church. He was also a very active member of the Lamoni Lion's Club and was awarded for service in the membership drive.


Preceding him in death were his parents; granddaughter Wanda Sams, grandson Kurt Bolte; and brother Jerald Sams.


Survivors include his wife Arlene of Lamoni; six children: Raymond and wife Linda Kay of Sibley, Missouri; Richard and wife Linda Louise of Independence, Missouri; Donald and wife Wanda of Lenox, Iowa, Linda Sue Shutt and husband Richard of Independence, Missouri; Sandra Bolte and husband Jim of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and David and wife Joyce of Osceola, Iowa;...


...17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Willard Sams and wife Maxine of Independence, Missouri, and Harold Sams and wife Norma of LaHarpe, Kansas; two sisters: LaVerne Edgington and husband Russell of Lamoni, Iowa, and Bernie Hamilton and husband Art of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; other relatives and many friends.


Norval will be remembered by the people of Lamoni every time they look at the bench by the drugstore.


Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. December 23, 1992, at the Lamoni R.L.D.S. Church with Elders Bill Ballantyne and Marvin Sword officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Lamoni, Iowa. Arrangements were made through the Slade - O'Donnell Funeral Home of Lamoni, Iowa. Memorials may be given to the Davis City RLDDS. Church.
