Daughter of Herman Christian Ludwig Franz "Louis" Blume and Abelia "Melita" Haase, wife of Charles Wheaton Walter and mother of Kierstead (married Vera Holmes), Melita S., Ainslie Wheaton, and Tad Walter.

Obituary - Mrs. Katrina B. Walter, of South Country Road, Bellport, died at the age of 79 at her home Friday, after a lengthy illness. Born June 23, 1891, in New York City, she had lived for many years in Brookhaven. Leaving there in 1942, she resided for eight years in Babylon before spending the next 20 years in Malibu, Calif., and Houston, Tex. She then returned to Long Island to make her home first, in Brookhaven and then in Bellport.

Active in Women's Suffrage early in the 1900's Mrs. Walter was also vitally interested in the parole system work being done in those days by Warden Laws of Sing Sing prison. For many years she owned Beaver Dam Kennels and raised dachshunds. She founded the Suffolk County Kennel Club and was its president in 1943.

Many of her children stories appeared in the now defunct Playtime Magazine. For a number of years she published the Kennel Crier, a dog publication devoted to obedience training, field trials and show. She was active as a newspaper woman, starting her career with the Advance. She also spent a number of years writing a Dine and Dance page for the Brooklyn Daily Eagle's Suffolk Supplement, The Island News. She also wrote a "Shopping in Suffolk County with Kay Walter" column. During and directly after World War II, she worked for the Herald Tribune in New York.

Surviving are two sons, Ainslie W. and Tad; two grandchildren, Tad Jr., and Mrs. Robert Palmer; and six great-grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday at the Ruland Funeral Home, followed by a cremation at Washington Memorial Park, Coram.
