FRED H. BROCKMAN

Fred H. Brockman, 80?, of Valders, died Sunday morning, October 24, at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church, Valders. The Rev. Carl Peters and the Rev. Oz Twedt will officiate and burial will be in Valders West Cemetery.
Mr. Brockman was born June 7, 1902, at Wonewoc, Wis., son of the late Fred and Lena Schroeder Brockman. He attended Platteville public Schools and received his Bachelors Degree from University of Wisconsin, Platteville. He did graduate work at University of Iowa and University of Wisconsin, Madison. He married Marion F. Hougen of Wausau Aug. 3, 1929, at Oconto. Following their marriage they resided in Valders four years and later returned there again in 1940, when they started the Valders Journal which they have continued to the present time. Prior to that time Mr. Brockman taught high school in Valders for eight years. He also taught at Potosi and Prentice, Wis., and was principal at Woodruff. While at Valders he organized the High School Band. He received the Valders Lions Community Service Award in 1979 and the Recognition Award from Lakeshore Hall of Fame in 1960.
Mr. Brockman was a member of Wisconsin Newspaper Association and past president of North Eastern Wisconsin Press Association and served on its Board of Directors. He was past president and a member of Valders Lions Club since 1942. He was past president and member of Valders Fire Department and a member of Valders Improvement Association since its origin. He was former Valders Justice of Peace and a member of Faith Lutheran Church where he held various offices and was a Sunday School teacher. Mr. and Mrs. Brockman celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1979.
Survivors include his wife, Marion, a daughter and son-in-law, Marlene and Glenn Thompsen of Valders; a brother, Harold Brockman and a sister, Miss Della Brockman of Platteville; three grandchildren, Brian, Jon and Bruce of Valders; nieces, nephews and other relatives. Two brothers, Robert and Arthur and a sister, Mrs. Esther Bainbridge preceded him in death.
Friends may call at Christianson-Deja Funeral Home, Valders, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and at the church from noon Wednesday until the time of service.
