(1930 - 2014)


Ronald D. Zenke, 84, Brillion died Oct. 23, 2014, at his residence following a brief illness. He was born Sept. 16, 1930, on the family farm in Fountain City, Wis., to the late Art and Stella Zenke. Ron graduated from Galesville High School in 1948. In 1949, he joined the Army, serving 23 months in Okinawa. He returned home and married his high school sweetheart, MaryLou Kopp, on Dec. 28, 1952. She preceded him in death on May 23, 2001.

In 1962, Ron returned to college earning his Bachelor's Degree from Winona State and in 1973 he earned his Master's Degree. He took a teacher's position in Spooner, Wis. and later in Valders, Wis. Ron achieved the position of Principal of Reedsville High School from 1974-1979. Ron was also Associate Dean of Apprenticeship for Trade and Industry at Fox Valley Technical College until his retirement in 1993.

Ron married Dorothy Borchardt Dec. 12, 2003, at Wayside, Wis. He had many hobbies, one of which was owning over 60 vehicles. He loved taking his grandchildren to the car shows, loved reading, traveling and going to the (Barn). The Barn is where he would meet his friends and work on wood projects and reminisce about old times. One of the projects Ron took great pride in was building his own casket.

Ron was a Mission Builder and helped coordinate and build over 15 churches across the United States. After retiring as a Mission Builder his desire to help others led him to volunteering at Peter's Pantry and Holy Family Memorial Hospital. He was also a member of the Reedsville Lion's Club, AMVETS Post 1032 of Reedsville and served on numerous church boards and taught Sunday School. He also enjoyed a weekly Bible study.

Ron is survived by his wife, Dorothy, Brillion; one son and daughter-in-law, Brian (Bean) Zenke, Manitowoc; one daughter and son-in-law, Ronda (Kevin) Bastian, Manitowoc; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, Rick (Jeanne) Borchardt, Greenleaf; Jeff (Noreen) Borchardt, Wayside; one stepdaughter and son-in-law, Pat (Dale) Rosin, Greenleaf; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Larry and JoAnne Zenke, Jacksonville, Fla.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Wayne and Kathy Auer, Florida; Dick and Louise Kopp, Galesville; Barb (Henry-deceased) Kopp, Ettrick, Wis.; Dorothy (Bill-deceased) DuVal, Arizona; Lyle and Bonnie Trocinski, LaCrosse; further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his 1st wife, Mary Lou; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Byron and Isabelle Kopp; two sisters and brother-in-law, Betty and Jake Melzna and Bonnie Trocinski.

Special thanks to Calumet County Hospice and Dr. Sipple, his "Barn buddies", Bob, Carl, Ron, Elmer, Don and Jerry; also special thanks to Steve for the beautiful engraved wood carving.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, at Zion Lutheran Church, 8378 County Road W, Wayside, Wis., from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Funeral service at noon with Rev. Vernon Heim officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the AMVETS Post 1032 of Reedsville. Burial in Valders West Cemetery.
