Rose Malecha, age 86, of Montgomery, died Sunday, January 3, 2016 at mayo Health Systems in New Prague after a brief illness.

Rose Mary Louise was born in Credit River, Minnesota to Paul and Catherine (Schmitz) Ehlers on January 20, 1929. Rose graduated from Prior Lake High School in 1946.

Rose wasunited in marriage to Joseph V. Malecha on June 15, 1946 in St. Peter’s Catholic Church near Credit River. She was a long-time employee at the Munsingwear plant in Montgomery, where she worked until it closed in the early 1980’s. After that, Rose and her husband, Joe, spent many years working as dedicated employees at the Montgomery Medical Clinic and the American Legion Club. Rose “officially” retired in 2003.

Rose was a devoted member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, watching old movies and putting together puzzles and for many years was involved with the American Legion Auxiliary, Ladies VFW Auxiliary, DAV and CCW. She was especially proud of her grandchildren.

Rose is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Evelyn, Frances Benkovics, Edwin, John, Alvin, Paul, and Earl; loving husband, Joe; and son, Dr. Myron Malecha.

She is survived by her daughter, Jeannie (Mel) Malecha of New Prague; son, Gary (Linda) of Portland, Oregon; daughter-in-law, Cathy of Isanti; seven grandchildren, Steve Chesney, Lisa (Matthew) Thomas, Joe (Stephanie), Matthew (Jennifer), Katie, Craig (Lia) and Scott (Sherry) Malecha, one step-grandson, Eric Odegaared, and four great-grandchildren, Erinne Chesney, Carter, Colin and Julianne Malecha and sister-in-law, Ludy Malecha of Princeton.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 8th from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with Mass of Christian burial following at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Montgomery, MN.
