Colleen Marie (Mohring) Young was born November 20, 1970 in Sparta, Wisconsin to (living mother) and Kenneth Mohring (deceased).

Colleen attended Sparta schools and graduated from Sparta High School in 1989. She was active in volleyball, cheerleading, band, color guard, and pit band for the musicals. She took private piano and flute lessons for many years. She won many awards for Solo & Ensemble competitions for flute and piano in high school.

Colleen attended the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire for two years (1989-1991) majoring in music. While there, she was a hockey cheerleader and a member of the color guard. Colleen transferred to the University of Minnesota in the fall of 1991. Colleen received her BA in Geography and History in 1994.

Colleen & (living spouse) were married October 28, 1995 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They moved to Raleigh, North Carolina (1994-1996) and Buffalo, New York (1996-1998) while her husband was employed with Andersen Windows. Colleen worked as a waitress, front end manager for a grocery store, sales and training employee at a health club, and then as an administrative assistant for MCI in Buffalo.

In 1995 they adopted two "weiner" dogs, Oscar & Meyer, who were their first loves and the grandmas' first "grandpuppies."

Colleen & her husband loved to go to concerts and travel. A very memorable trip was to Rocklahoma, Oklahoma to an 80s rock concert festival. Wonderful memories were had attending Superbowls in San Diego and New Orleans and Dallas to cheer on the Packers.

Her spouse was able to get transferred back to Minnesota, and they moved to Wyoming, Minnesota in 1999. They bought their dream house on Linwood Lake. Colleen worked for MCI, a pizza restaurant in Forest Lake, and the Wyoming drug store. For one year they took over the lease on the Country School Restaurant in Linwood Township. Colleen volunteered countless hours at the Northwoods Humane Society. Colleen also sold Tastefully Simple products.

In 2006 their son was born. He was a welcome surprise. This life changing event caused Colleen and her husband to decide to move back home to Wisconsin in 2007. Here they could have 2 sets of grandparents close by, and they could raise their son in Packer country.

Since 2007, Colleen had been an active stay-at-home mom, involved in the Holmen area mom's club and the Viking Elementary PTO. She was her son's biggest fan, shuttling him to playdates, tennis, basketball, football, and baseball.

Colleen was a supporter of the Coulee Region Humane society. Colleen loved animals, cooking, hosting parties, decorating, gardening, celebrating holidays, and being with her family and friends.

In the spring of 2009 Colleen was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. The cancer became metastatic breast cancer. She took 12 different cancer drugs with varying successes over the years, but ultimately they all stopped working.

Colleen is survived by her husband and her reason-to-live-for son, mother and stepfather, a stepbrother, and two stepsisters. Her husband's family has been a constant support, and they include his parents, two sisters, a brother, and many nieces and nephews. Colleen has many wonderful and close friends.

Please direct Memorials in Colleen's name to the Monroe County Humane Society in Sparta and the Viking Elementary PTO in Holmen.
