Robert Henry Bowron Jr ("Bob"), 92, died January 5, 2020. Born January 14, 1927 Birmingham, Alabama. Predeceased by his wife, Anne Franklin Wheelock Bowron; son Robert Henry Bowron III; grandson Robert Riley McAlpine Smith. Attended Lakeview Elementary; graduated McCallie College Preparatory School, Chattanooga, TN. Volunteered for military service at age 17. US Army Specialized Training Reserve Program Vanderbilt University; Infantry Training Camp Rucker; stationed during post-WW II Occupation in Yokohama, Japan. Juris Doctor University of Alabama School of Law; Phi Delta Theta social fraternity; member of Alabama State Bar; Birmingham Bar Association (50 years of service 2002). Life-long member of St. Mary's on-the-Highlands Episcopal Church; served on vestry and taught Sunday School. Member of Federalist Society; Birmingham Aero Club; Jefferson County Historical Society; Dixie Vintage Auto Club and monthly Friends Group. Former member of The Club; Downtown Club. Former member of National Transportation Safety Board Bar Association and previously held a private pilot's license. Bob enjoyed attending the Alabama Symphony performances and Rector's Bible Study at St. Mary's. Along with his late wife, he enjoyed traveling overseas and across the state of Alabama. They attended the opening of the American Air Museum in Duxford, England where Queen Elizabeth II presided over the ceremonies. They also visited Stockton-on-Tees, England, birthplace of Bob's grandfather, early Birmingham industrialist and civic leader James Bowron. Visitation Monday, January 13th from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at Johns-Ridout's Southside - 2116 University Blvd B'ham 35233 (205) 251-5254; Graveside service Tuesday January 14th - Elmwood Cemetery 10:00 am; followed by Memorial Service St. Mary's on-the-Highlands Episcopal Church 1910 12th Avenue South at 11:15 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary's Episcopal Church (address above) or to a charity of one's choice.
