December 4, 1936 - January 2, 2016 OKLAHOMA CITY James Largue III passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2016, at the age of 79. He was born in Mobile, AL on December 4th, 1936 to James Jr. and Oneida M. Largue. He graduated from Murphy High School in 1955 and attended the University of Alabama for two years where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Jim joined the Marine Corps Reserve in 1954, while still in high school. He integrated into the regular Marine Corps upon leaving University of Alabama in January, 1958 and was released from active duty in January, 1961. He reenlisted in the Marine Corps in June 1962 and remained until he retired in February 1981 as a Mustang Captain. The first portion of his career was spent in Marine Reconnaissance outfits. He retrained after having an accident that caused him to be restricted in his assignments as a Recon Marine. He rotated back to the mainland in 1963 and retrained in the Marine Air Traffic Control Field where he remained the rest of his career. During his career he was stationed all over the world including multiple tours in Vietnam, tours in Japan, Okinawa and other locations in the Far East. His last tour of duty was as Officer in Charge, Advanced Air Traffic Schools Naval Air Technical Training Command (NATTC) Memphis, TN. He retired 1 Feb. 1981 and moved to Oklahoma City, OK as an instructor at the FAA Academy. Jim and Sue married in January of 1984 and moved to San Jose, CA where Jim had a position with Lockheed in Satellite Operations until he moved to San Antonio, TX and retired for a second time then moved to Oklahoma. Jim was very active in his community. He was a math tutor at Ridgeview Elementary School, volunteered at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, Oklahoma History Center and VA facility in Oklahoma City. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where he serviced on various Boards. He is survived by his wife, Sue of 32 years, son, James H Largue and wife Kimberly of Memphis, TN and grandchildren, Amanda and Nicholas Largue. Jim is also survived by step-daughters, Nancy Hughes of Tulsa, OK, Connie Richman of Santa Paula, CA, Becky Burgess and husband Rick and Cathy Blott of Oklahoma City, OK, as well as sister, Robin Largue of Pensacola, FL; brother, Roy Largue and wife Cathy of Mobile, AL; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jim will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, step-father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather. Jim was always a Marine and southern gentleman. Services will be Saturday, January 9th, 10:00 am at Covenant Presbyterian 10100 Ridgeview Dr., OKC. In lieu of flowers donation can be made to Wounded Warrior Project, or the charity of your choice.
