Floyd Rice was born on March 20, 1922 in Jefferson City, Mo., to Theodore "Ted" and Maude "Marie" (Harlan) Rice.
He was married to Margaret Lucille Kirchhoff on June 26, 1940 in Sedalia, Missouri. They were married 60 years.

Floyd quit school after the 8th grade to help his father support the family. They chopped and delivered firewood.
He worked for International Shoe in Jefferson City and was foreman in the fitting room.
After the war he went back to the same shoe factory.
In 1962 he was transferred to Perryville, MO and then Flora, Illinois.
In 1973 Floyd and Margaret moved to the farm 3 miles east of McGirk, MO.
He went to work for Weber Shoe in Fulton, MO. Then he worked for Stride-Rite Shoe and was Superintendent. He was a specialist on the original boat shoe.
After Margaret died in 2001, he sold the farm and had a house built in California, MO. He lived there with his second wife Betty until his death at the Moniteau Care Center.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in California, plus he was a Gideon.

Military - World War II
Floyd was drafted May 26, 1943 into the Army. Basic training was at Ft. Riley, Kansas. He was shipped overseas in November 1943 to England where he spent 7 months.He landed in the 2nd wave onto Normandy Beach. He served in the 38th Mechanized Calvary Tank Company. Rank of Sargeant and drove a tank. He drove the 4th tank into the Liberation of Paris, France in 1945.He was in the Battle of the Bulge and met up with Russian troops at a concentration camp about 25-30 miles from Berlin at the end of the war in Europe. They moved to Czechoslovakia and stayed there 7 months before going home. He spent 12 days on a liberty ship and landed in New York City on November 6, 1945. Then he traveled by train to Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis, MO . Then he traveled by train to Jefferson City, MO and arrived home November 12, 1945. His Company received five Battle Stars. He received the Presidential Unit Citation and Good Conduct Medal. He served in 7 countries and was discharged November 10, 1945. His only wound was when a bullet grazed his ear. Dad was a very lucky man.
