Enlisted for 12 months' service on 6/18/1861 at Front Royal, VA, he was mustered into "E" Co. VA 7th Cavalry as a Private.

Re-enlisted on 5/1/1862 at Conrad's Store, VA.; paid $50 Re-enlistment Bounty 10/24/1862.
Present on Nov & Dec 1862 Roll.
Present on Feb 29 - March 31, 1864 and March & April 1864 Rolls; sorrell horse valued at $1100.
Present on July & Aug 1864 final Roll.

Postwar he lived in Culpeper County, VA.

The 7th Cavalry Regiment was organized during the late spring of 1861. In October authority was given to increase its size, and by the summer of 1862 the regiment contained twenty-nine companies. In June it was reduced to ten companies.
