Born in Moline, IL, on March 19, 1943, the daughter of Troy M. Histed and Marguerite L. (Stevens) Histed. She and a younger sister, Andrea, spent their early childhood years raised in New Boston, IL. Later the family moved to Dixon, IL and then to Winter Haven, FL in her high school years where she professionally water-skied for Cypress Gardens. Shortly thereafter she met her husband of 48 years, William A. Hickmott. She and William raised a family in the same home in Newfields since 1971.
Linda loved cooking and was always ready to try something new to surprise her family and friends. Her cooking library is quite large with books here, there and everywhere. Beyond the immediate family, many, many kids over the years fondly referred to her as their "Extended Mom" or "Grammy Linda". She absolutely and unconditionally loved her family and friends.
Her other love of life were her animals. Many cats, dogs, horses, bunnies and Alexander the goat. She contributed to many animal rights organizations over the years. She raised horses for over 20 years in Newfields and loved riding bareback.
Linda graduated from Junior College in Asheville, NC and worked as a medical laboratory technician in Florida until 1966. She worked for Lawrence General Hospital in the late '60s and for the Exeter Clinic in the '70s. Later she was employed by several private practices and by Path Lab, Inc. on Lafayette Road in Portsmouth through the '80s.
She is survived by her husband William A. Hickmott, daughter Rochelle M. Hickmott-Mulkern of Bartlett, NH, two sons William T. Hickmott of Milton, NH and Brandon J. Hickmott of Kittery, two granddaughters, Miriah and Tabitha Hickmott of Exeter, NH, two grandsons Shea and Finnian Mulkern of Bartlett, two great granddaughters Gisele Hickmott and Isabelle Durkin of Exeter, plus an extensive extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins concentrated in the Midwest and Southern States.
Services: There will be no visitation. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to NHSPCA, PO Box 196, Stratham, NH 03885.
Arrangements are under the direction of the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel.
