He originally enlisted in 1943, and proudly served his country in the United States Navy, during World War II, and continued his military career in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War until retirement of 20 years. He followed with a career with the City of San Antonio, ultimately managing one of the Automotive Vehicle Centers for the City until retirement of 20 years and continued with teaching his knowledge of Automotive Mechanics for several years before he truly retired. When not working, Severo enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, cooking delicious barbecue, listening to music and dancing. Although his eyesight and hearing failed him, it never ceased to surprise others of his independent ability to get around and be in tune with everything and everyone. He was amazingly strong all his life, his family meant everything to him and he served as the patriarch of the Buenteo family for many years. Without fail, others knew they could come to him for help or advice and he would help them make the hard decisions. He was strong in spirit and faith, proudly serving his church as both a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Council #2103 and a Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #7016 to include serving as a Grand Knight in 1985. He had been a member of the Sembradores de Amistad, Bejar Caravan No. 56 International Order of the Alhambra, Disabled American Veterans, Woodman of the World, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW #76) and American Legion Post #485.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Eva Tijerina, Adam Buenteo, Eufemia Briseno, Ignacio Buenteo, Arthur (Buenteo) Botello; and son-in-law, Glenn R. Helvey.
As a loving husband and father he will be greatly missed. Severo and Alexandra were married for 67 years. Together they have four daughters, Maria Buenteo Helvey, Patricia Perez Buenteo, Margaret Doris Buenteo Finch (husband, Robert T. Finch) and Katherine Buenteo Calucci (husband, Thomas Calucci).
