John Strader (1758-1846) U.E.L.
Hannah (Carns) Strader (1764-1853)
John Strader U.E.L., a Revolutionary War soldier, was born in Tryon County, New York, enlisted in 1782, and served with the First Battalion, Sir John Johnson's King's Royal Regiment of New York.
John married Hannah Carns, daughter of Jacob Carns U.E.L. and Elisabeth, in 1782 in Quebec, and settled on lands granted to him as a Loyalist in Royal Township 5, Matilda Township, Dundas County, Upper Canada.
1784 - Return of disbanded troops and Loyalists settled in Township No. 5 (Matilda) mustered 13 Oct. 1784 - John Strader and wife.
John died Aug. 1846 age 90 years and 5 months. Buried by Rev. Edward Boswell on 16 Aug. 1846, and the record for the death of John Strader is attached. Burial: St. John's Anglican Cemetery, Concession 1, Matilda Township.
St. John's Anglican Cemetery was affected by the St. Lawrence seaway project, but only the front and west side of the cemetery was affected by the flooding, and the monuments were raised to the new grade level in their present locations.
