William Goldsborough was the son of Robert Henry Goldsborough and his wife Henrietta Maria Nicols Goldsborough of Myrtle Grove, Talbot County, Maryland. William's wife Mary Tilghman Goldsborough is the daughter of Governor Charles Goldsborough of Shoal Creek, Dorchester County, Maryland and his wife Sarah Yerbury Goldsborough.

William's life was dedicated to farming his family's land and caring for his brothers and sisters at Myrtle Grove in Talbot County. All of the US Census records list his occupation as a farmer the 1850-1880 records list brothers and sisters living his house along with his wife Mary Tilghman and their children.
