Attorney, Judge. He was a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, and served as a Judge of the Court of Common Pleas from 1884 to 1887.

During the Civil War he served as a Sergeant in Company E, 140th Ohio National Guard, being mustered in on August 2, 1864 and being mustered out on September 3, 1864.

His son was Congressman Henry Towne Bannon, whom he named after his law partner, Henry A. Towne.
